Dave's note

Why I like it

A strong default capsule option when someone has already been advised to use a higher EPA/DHA intake. Good concentration, practical capsule burden, and strong value in the current supplier cache.

  • It is a practical high-strength capsule: 900 mg EPA+DHA per capsule means a 3 g EPA+DHA/day target is roughly 4 capsules rather than a high capsule burden.
  • The label uses concentrated fish omega-3 triglycerides, which is the omega-3 form I prefer to consider first when the price is competitive.
  • It is currently good value against RRP, so it works as a sensible default capsule option before moving someone to a liquid fish oil.
  • The TGA listing, transparent allergen flags, and clear EPA/DHA numbers make it easy to document and explain.

How I take it

  • When I am using this as my omega-3 capsule option, I take 4 capsules/day with food: usually 2 capsules with a main meal and 2 capsules with another meal.
  • That gives about 3.6 g/day combined EPA+DHA, which is close to the high-dose EPA/DHA range I am interested in for lipid and cardiovascular-risk discussions.
  • I take it with food because EPA/DHA absorption is better with meals, and splitting the dose is also more comfortable than taking all 4 capsules at once.
  • I treat this as a targeted protocol rather than a default forever-dose: I would reassess against diet, omega-3 status, triglycerides, medications, bleeding risk, and any upcoming procedure.

This is my personal protocol logic, not a blanket client instruction. Client dose still needs to be individualised.

Studies that informed my choice

Association Between Omega-3 Fatty Acid Intake and Dyslipidemia: A Continuous Dose-Response Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials Meta-analysis · Wang et al. 2023 Dose-response evidence is why I think in grams of EPA+DHA. A 2023 continuous dose-response meta-analysis of randomized trials found combined omega-3 intake lowered triglycerides in a dose-responsive pattern. This is why I calculate the actual EPA+DHA delivered, rather than treating all fish oil capsules as equivalent. Effect of omega-3 fatty acids on cardiovascular outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis Systematic review + meta-analysis · Khan et al. 2021 Cardiovascular outcome evidence keeps the claim conservative. A 2021 meta-analysis of 38 RCTs reported modest cardiovascular outcome benefits overall, with stronger signals for EPA-only trials than combined EPA+DHA. This informs my caution: I like this as a strong EPA+DHA capsule, but I would not position it as equivalent to prescription EPA for high-risk cardiovascular indications. The influence of dietary and supplemental omega-3 fatty acids on the omega-3 index: A scoping review Scoping review · Dempsey et al. 2023 Omega-3 index data supports using a concentrated triglyceride-form EPA+DHA product. A 2023 scoping review found that triglyceride-form EPA+DHA at roughly 1,000-1,500 mg/day for at least 12 weeks was a practical range for improving omega-3 index. This supports preferring a concentrated triglyceride-form product when value is reasonable. Bioavailability of EPA and DHA in humans - A comprehensive review Comprehensive review · Alijani et al. 2025 Form and meal timing matter for bioavailability. A 2025 comprehensive review of human EPA/DHA bioavailability reinforces that chemical form and delivery method affect uptake. Clinical references also note better absorption when EPA/DHA is taken with food, which is why I take this with meals.
